MY PLEASURE

My Reading Ritual: I love a good ritual, I really do. That, in itself, is a pleasure—a particular way of doing things, done frequently. I could talk about the joys of reading a good book, but that's an obvious pleasure. What about the joys of discovering a new book at a quaint bookstore, discussing it with friends, writing a short review, and shelving it in your "Already Read" bookcase? Now that's pleasure. My boyfriend got me a customized book stamp for Christmas, and I've been stamping away at my books ever since. It's now a part of my little ritual. The act of building a library brings me pleasure.

Daily Elaborate Dinners: More on Rituals. I live alone (itself a pleasure), and one of my indulgences is cooking really nice dinners for myself each day. I’m not one to meal plan. My dinners are at strange times—never before 8 and seldom after 10. While I cook, I put on a YouTube video, watch a periodical, or FaceTime with my boyfriend, and it all feels very luxurious. My dishes are heavy on flavor and proteins. I need more veggies, and I’m generous with carbs. I always have seconds. I waste more than I should. I clean up every night, and I eat in my bed, which I’ve just learned is considered disgusting behavior.
